Winter Light, Cwmphil Road, Lower Cwmtwrch

Landscape photo of winter light falling on stone houses in Cwmphill Road, Upper Swansea Valley with Y Darren Widdon mountain in the distance.

Right, here is my biggest issue with Cwmtwrch:

It is so damn picturesque, and yet I do not have nearly enough photos of it! 📸😭

I can’t count the number of times I’ve driven down Berrington Hill and been stopped dead by the view. Looking across the valley to the Darren on those bright, hazy spring mornings is spectacular. The views from Heol Maes Pica, Gurnos, and Palleg are equally stunning. Even the character of the river on the bend and at the split demands attention.

It was only this year that I finally travelled from Lower Cwmtwrch to Upper Cwmtwrch on foot for the first time. Having the chance to walk gave me a new perspective, letting me appreciate the quirky and unique buildings that I’d previously missed while driving.

So, if there’s one thing on my list for Santa this year, it’s the opportunity to photograph Cwmtwrch more extensively in 2026.🤞

And I have been a good boy this year (mostly) 😉.
