Winter on Castle Beach, Tenby

Landscape photo of Tenby. Dramatic winter clouds gather as walkers enjoy Castle Beach in Tenby overlooked by Georgian houses.
To me the image is the essence of coastal winter and feels like it's on the edge of something — a real sense of anticipation of something I can't quite put my finger on. Castle Beach, Tenby, Pemprokeshire.

I keep coming back to this image. Taken just before Christmas a decade ago, I think it’s one of my favourites. Tenby is well known for being a place to go in the summer — a fantastically quirky and picturesque seaside town, but I find this shot shows the ton of atmosphere it holds in the winter.

The silhouettes of people enjoying a walk on the beach, the dramatic skies, and if you look closely you can see where the wind is drawing little swirls in the sand. To me the image is the essence of coastal winter and feels like it’s on the edge of something — a real sense of anticipation of something I can’t quite put my finger on.
