Snow on the Nant Helen Forestry Trails, Ystradgynlais

Landscape photo of snow-covered forestry trails against a vibrant orange sunrise.
There is something truly magical about walking a snow/frost covered forest. We are a small country, but the diversity of the landscape is huge. Nant Helen Forestry, near Ystradgynlais. December 2020

Another JPEG off my old phone so not the best it could be, but I wanted to share as I love the scene so much. Taken on the forestry trails around Nant Helen, between Caehopkin and Ystradgynlais on New Year’s Eve 2020.

The sky was ablaze the morning this was taken and it was so atmospheric walking the trails. Looking back down the hill towards Cribarth, I felt I could have been on a long hike in the Rockies.

I grew up in a pretty dull landscape, but I always longed for scenery with a bit more oomph. It’s safe to say I’ve really got that since coming back to Wales. There is something truly magical about walking a snow/frost covered forest (or a little creepy if you remember the first episode of Game of Thrones!). We are a small country, but the diversity of the landscape is huge.
