Here’s Caehopkin looking like a winter wonderland. It’s so difficult to get pleasing snow photos in our country. It snows so infrequently and when it does, more often than not its accompanied by overcast skies. It’s more about luck than anything.
I’d left the house on foot and walked up The Line from Ystradgynlais to Caehopkin. Most of that walk was under clouds. It was something else walking through virgin snowfall, but not optimal for photos. On the way back however, the skies began to clear and the landscape became enchanted pools of light and mist.
There’s so much I love about this shot: the way the sun is catching the foreground trees and the yellow house, but then looking further and you can see the mist wending its way along the base of the valley through Ynyswen and Abercrave. Then you look to the horizon and you can see Fan Gyhirych standing proud but almost camouflaged against the cloudy skies to the north.
