This scene has been playing on my mind over the last couple of days as something I really want to paint. Of course, I saw it while driving down the hill into Ystradgynlais, unable to stop and take a reference photo at the time. I tried my best to make written notes, but I found myself just needing to get something down to sort of ‘concrete’ it into existence.

Being away from my studio and paints, I had to use the next best thing and paint on my laptop using my Wacom tablet and MyPaint. I’m well used to the value of previz from my time working in video production, I can’t say I’ve actually applied it to my own work, so this is a first for me. But whilst the composition is way off, and I’ll put more detail and finesse into the final piece, I think doing this previz has been a massive help if only to capture somewhat the mood of what I finally want to achieve when I sit down to paint it ‘proper’.
