Dusk Snow in Penrhos, Ystradgynlais

Landscape photo at night of snow falling on Brecon Road in Penrhos, Ystradgynlais with Christmas decorations in the windows of the houses and reflections of street lights on the road.

I think the arrival of snow during the festive period holds such a special place for us because we’ve spent our lives being shown the ‘Christmas image’ — the Victorian Christmas scenes or snow-covered Americana of the Christmas movies we grew up watching.

There is something indelible about experiencing walking home in the snow on Christmas Eve: the crunch underfoot, the gentle sound of Christmas Carols drifting into the night, and the twinkle of the Christmas tree to greet you when you step in the door.

With Christmas day usually being mild and overcast, I hope I get to experience Christmas snow again one day, and more so that my daughter gets to see it. It seems increasingly unlikely with the way our seasonal weather patterns are heading.
