Sometimes photography is just about luck. In this case, a rainy recce to Ferryside on the Carmarthenshire coast for the first time turned into a desperate ‘run-and-gun’ with my compact camera.
Dark skies and bright foregrounds – the kind you get often on winter afternoons – are often my favourite to photograph, though being in the right place at the right time to photograph them is often difficult.
I love the strips of highlights on the sandbanks, the misty shores on the opposite side of the estuary, and the reflections in the sand. However, it’s the presence of a single fishing boat, beached on the glossy shore that amplifies the feeling of solitude one finds at the coast in winter. The vivid rainbow lining up with the cabin is just the icing on the cake.
Definitley one of my favourite photographs of 2018.
